As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     The Muppets
2011  PG  COMEDY  1h 43min
CAST— Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones
MUSIC— Christophe Beck  DIRECTOR— James Bobin

With the recent reboots of money-making franchises such as the Batman and James Bond series the folks at Disney decided to reintroduce audiences to those oddball puppets, the Muppets. Gary and Walter (human and puppet, respectively) are brothers who, while visiting LA, happen to learn that the famous Muppet Studios are to be torn down by an evil oil baron. Unless $10,000,000 can be raised it’s bye bye to their beloved theater. Walter vows to reunite the now separated Muppets for one final show. But can they all get past their own differences, plan a telethon and coerce Jack Black into being their celebrity host all before showtime? Just like Muppet movies of yesteryear the landscape is full of superfluous celebrity cameos, forgettable musical numbers and humorous pop culture references. Though it can be a bit tiring at times both kids and adults should get a kick out of the film. Whether this is your introduction to the Muppets or you’ve been there since Alice Cooper guest starred on The Muppet Show, enjoy. Oscar-winner for Best Song (Man or Muppet [Bret McKenzie]).
OUR RATING— ** ½
FOLLOWED BY— Muppets Most Wanted (2014)
