     Of Mice and Men

MUSIC— Mark Isham  DIRECTOR— Gary Sinise  BASED ON— Of Mice and Men (story), by John Steinbeck

Excellent production of the John Steinbeck classic (and 1939 film) Of Mice and Men. Gary Sinise and John Malkovich star as two migrant workers in depression-era California. Sinise looks after simple-minded Malkovich, the two never really staying in one place very long. They arrive on a new ranch where the work is hard and the pay is meager. An assorted cast of characters reside there but none as dangerous as the boss’ son, a mean little boxer who jealously covets his seductive wife. These things spell trouble for Sinise and Malkovich, though they never knew how far it would go… Terrific performances, production design, the works; an authentic period piece. Arguably as good as the original.
OUR RATING— ***
ORIGINAL— Of Mice and Men (1939)
