As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

Mount up! Kirk Douglas plays an ambitious, charismatic Texas senate hopeful. He’s also a ruthless marshal for the Lone Star state who, along with his team (or “posse”) of devoted men, has either captured or killed every outlaw he’s set out to catch. But there’s always one, now isn’t there? Bruce Dern plays a notorious train robber whose lifestyle spells doom for any posse that travels with him. Douglas and his men kill Dern’s men, capture the outlaw and take him to town to thunderous applause. The applause dies, however, when Dern escapes capture and shows the town that their precious marshal is but a mere human, after all. Interesting final moments add a final grain of salt to the wound in a humiliating twist. Star Douglas directs with verve but his performance (though on par, of course) is trumped by Dern’s easy going nature; it’s a little hard to choose a side to root for but a good time is still to be had.
