As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Room Service
1938  NR  COMEDY  1h 18min
CAST— Groucho Marx, Chico Marx, Harpo Marx, Lucille Ball, Ann Miller, Frank Albertson, Donald MacBride
MUSIC— Roy Webb  DIRECTOR— William A. Seiter  BASED ON— Room Service (play), by Allen Boretz, John Murray

Yes, once again the Marx Brothers are up to their usual shenanigans, but this time with less than the usual funny. This time around the boys play stage producers holed up inside of a hotel room that they can’t afford. With the manager pounding on their door they desperately try to raise money for their play, for their room, and for food, all the while training a green small-town playwright to be just as mischievous and dishonest as they are. Unlike A Night at the Opera (1935) and A Day at the Races (1937) this film has uneventful scenes and zero laughs, making this a completely forgettable comedy. For Marx Brothers freaks only.
