As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Big Jack
1949  NR  COMEDY  1h 25min
CAST— Wallace Beery, Richard Conte, Marjorie Main
MUSIC— Herbert Stothart  DIRECTOR— Richard Thorpe

Forgettable comedy set in the pioneer days of the early 1800s. Wallace Beery plays the title scoundrel, leader of a band of cutthroat thugs who kidnap a doctor about to hang for grave robbing. But the good doctor is no ordinary grave robber; he has no interest in gold teeth. His desecration is all in the name of science; he practices dangerous procedures on the dead, only to gain proficiency to perform on the living. He falls in and out of favor with Beery and wife Marjorie Main, finds a town in which to settle, even finds a love interest. Nothing really exciting here. Beery’s final film.
OUR RATING— **
