As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Destination Moon
1950  NR  SCIENCE FICTION  1h 31min
CAST— John Archer, Warner Anderson, Tom Powers, Dick Wesson, Erin O’Brien-Moore
MUSIC— Leith Stevens  DIRECTOR— Irving Pichel  BASED ON— Rocket Ship Galileo (novel), by Robert A. Heinlein

Entertaining (though slight) film chronicling the first manned mission to the moon. A team of three serious thinkers and a goofy radio operator hop aboard a shiny new rocket in hopes of being the first men on the moon. Despite various cases of trial and error their mission is successful; now the only problem is getting back home. Despite super-outdated (and imaginary) technology and cornball effects the viewer finds himself almost interested enough in their plight to root for them. A reliably hokey George Pal production. Oscar-winner for Best Visual Effects. AKA Operation Moon.
OUR RATING— ** ½
