As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     House of Frankenstein
1944  NR  HORROR  1h 11min
CAST— Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney, Jr., John Carradine, J. Carrol Naish
MUSIC— Hans J. Salter, Paul Dessau  DIRECTOR— Erle C. Kenton

And they get even sillier… Boris Karloff stars in this barely there mix-up of Universal Monsters. This time Karloff isn’t the misunderstood monster, he’s the mad doctor, inspired by the Doctors Frankenstein but convinced that he can succeed where they had failed. He and a murderous hunchback escape from prison, resurrect a skinny Dracula, save a gypsy girl, defrost the Wolf Man and Frankenstein’s monster and attempt to switch brains with various monsters. All within 71 minutes, one might add. Never convincing for a moment. Or interesting, for that matter. It can still be a hoot, if only for those “so bad they’re good” moments. Contains an ending so abrupt it’s as if they ran out of film. Pointless.
