As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     A Cry in the Night
1956  NR  DRAMA  1h 15min
CAST— Edmond O’Brien, Brian Donlevy, Natalie Wood, Raymond Burr
MUSIC— David Buttolph  DIRECTOR— Frank Tuttle  BASED ON— All Through the Night (novel), by Whit Masterson

Instantly forgettable tale of mama’s boy Raymond Burr kidnapping a young Natalie Wood from a smoochy smoochy lookout point. He does so after attacking her suitor with as dangerous a weapon as could be allowed on screen: a lunchbox. We’re talkin’ hardcore. Anyway, suitor wakes up in police custody where he finally meets his girlfriend’s father, police captain Edmond O’Brien, a temper tantrum waiting to happen. Meanwhile, Wood is being terrorized by her captor, whose offers of apricot pie and frilly dresses add madness to her misery. Burr is a standout as the somewhat slow-witted perp, whereas O’Brien is over acting his heart out. And you thought Perry Mason was a do-gooder. Tsk, tsk.
