     Cry of the Werewolf
1944  NR  HORROR  1h 3min
CAST— Nina Foch, Stephen Crane, Osa Massen
MUSIC— Mischa Bakaleinikoff  DIRECTOR— Henry Levin

Murder and monsters in this quickie chiller. In New Orleans a museum features exhibits chronicling the history of voodoo, vampirism and lycanthropy (or, as stated here, “werewolfism”). The museum used to be owned by a supposed werewolf, Marie LaTour. Now the director of the museum has discovered the secrets of her burial place, which reaches the ear of the local tribe of gypsies, ruled by none other than Marie’s daughter, Celeste. This daughter of a werewolf now spends her time pronouncing and delivering death to, not only the director, but anyone who gets too close to the hairy truth. She also tries to snuggle closer to Bob, the director’s son, who is investigating the death of his father. More often a mystery than a true horror film (with the murderous werewolf looking suspiciously like a well-fed wolf with peanut butter stuck to the roof of its mouth). Though the scares are pretty much nonexistent the film is entertaining enough. Not a bad way to kill an hour. AKA Daughter of the Werewolf.
OUR RATING— ** ½
