     Johnny English Reborn
2011  PG  COMEDY  1h 42min
CAST— Rowan Atkinson, Gillian Anderson, Dominic West, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Kaluuya, Richard Schiff
MUSIC— Ilan Eshkeri  DIRECTOR— Oliver Parker

English, Johnny English returns to action in this silly spy spoof sequel. It's been six years since English fouled up a high profile mission in Mozambique. Stripped of his MI7 status and even his knighthood he's since exiled himself to a Tibetan monastery where he trains his mind and body in hopes of one day returning to the field. His chance at redemption comes when MI7 asks for his return. As he reacquaints himself with the manner and tools of a spy he uncovers a plot to assassinate the Chinese Premiere by a deadly group called Vortex. It seems there may be a vole in the agency, but before English can spot the traitor he himself is framed as being part of Vortex. Only with persistence, agility and more than a little help from various gadgets can English hope to give the killers a taste of their own medicine. Continuing in the style of the original, this sequel actually offers up a more believable plot, one worthy of a serious spy flick. Even more surprising is that English proves a bit more competent than one would think, without eschewing any of the antics that make the character so much fun. An entertaining outing that continues to show the comedic prowess of funnyman Rowan Atkinson.
OUR RATING— ** ½
