As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

A feminist Western like no other, with none other than Joan Crawford in the starring role! Saloon owner Crawford sees a bright future ahead; a new railroad will bring in new settlers and in a matter of months a town will grow around her. She hires a new guitarist (with the original name of Johnny Guitar) who seems to have a bit of a past. He strikes it unfriendly with the local bad boy and company, who inadvertently involve Crawford with a bank heist. Her archenemy, a prim burr in the saddle played by Mercedes McCambridge, resorts to violence when she learns of the holdup, placing all of the blame on Crawford. What are she and her guitar man to do? A typically overacted, B-grade Western, though not as much fun as one would expect from the setup. Deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress National Film Registry.
